Faceting gemstones
The journey begins with careful examination of the rough sapphire. Our expert cutter Daniel studies the stone under different lighting and angles, assessing its internal structure, colour zoning, and any inclusions that may shape the final design. This evaluation guides every decision that follows.
Once he understands the stone, Daniel begins preforming — gently shaping the sapphire by hand into the outline of its future form. When the shape is ready, the stone is secured onto a dopstick for precision cutting.
With the sapphire set into the faceting machine, the transformation truly begins. Using fine diamond‑grit laps, Daniel cuts the pavilion with meticulous accuracy, ensuring perfect symmetry and crisp meet points. After cutting, he polishes each facet with diamond powders ranging from 1800 to 100,000 grit, achieving a flawless, mirror‑like finish.
The stone is then transferred and secured for the crown to be faceted. The same careful process is repeated: precise angles, clean meet points, and a final polish that brings out the sapphire's full brilliance.
After all these steps, the result is a high‑quality, precision‑faceted sapphire — a beautiful gemstone ready to become the centrepiece of a custom jewellery piece and eventually a cherished part of someone's life story.
